This year we have a new addition to the Ames Pridefest lineup: our first ever Queer Art Showcase & Contest!
While we had too few submissions to hold the contest portion, we’re so glad to spread queer joy and share your artistry with the community. Thank you to everyone who participated!
-
Scroll down to see all the amazing people and organizations that make Pridefest possible each year.
We need you! Volunteer.
From setting up the stage to showing visitors where to go, you can make Pridefest run more smoothly with just a couple hours of your time.
-
Greet and direct Pridefest attendees into the festival from the barricades or to all our programming inside the Ames Public Library.
-
Help to set up or tear down the main stage for Pridefest! Note: for this opportunity, we request volunteers be 18+ and able to easily lift 50+ lbs.
-
Take a shift hanging out in the volunteer break room, helping check folks in and making sure we don't run out of free t-shirts and snacks!
-
Help sell merchandise and direct attendees from the Ames Pride info tent.
-
Monitor the performers' green room throughout the day. Note: for this opportunity, we request volunteers be 18+.
Thank you for sharing your queer joy through art!

“Iowa Pride,” “Love Is Natural”
Artist: Paige Meyers (she/her)
Instagram: @wishyphishy
“‘Iowa Pride’ showcases pride in the state bird and flower, as well as for the gay community. ‘Love Is Natural’ showcases both a lesbian and gay version. More subtle coloration and animals were used to represent these pieces. The overall connection between these three pieces is that love is natural and nature is for everyone.”
“Sapphic Moth”
Artist: Mira Shaver (she/they)
Instagram: @mirkatzz_art
“This piece features a moth, creatures that symbolize transformation by and attraction, paralleling the journey of love within the LGBTQ community. In my artistic process, I begin with the intention of embodying a soft moth that mirrors the beauty and complexity of my own experiences in love and identity. Each brushstroke is a reflection of my emotions—gentle yet powerful, delicate yet resilient. Through this exploration, I seek to create a safe space for visibility and affirmation for those who identify with the themes I portray.”
“Intimacy and Light”
Artist: Sarah Bromley (any pronouns)
Bluesky: @Amethystdripp.bsky.social
“This piece is an expression of intimacy and light. The inclusion pride flag invites all to experience community and togetherness.”
